Where do Trim drivers do the NCT?
In Navan. Trim has no NCT centre, the test that serves Trim happens at Mullaghboy on the Athboy Road, which opened in 2021 to cover Trim, Athboy and Dunshaughlin. Our workshop is on the same side of the county.
That geography is worth using. Book the pre-NCT check with us before your Mullaghboy slot and the drive over happens once, not twice. We check the classic failure points, lights, tyres, brakes, suspension, emissions, fix what you approve, and the car goes into the test ready to pass. A failed NCT from Trim means another full trip across the county for the retest, which is exactly the wasted morning a pre-check exists to prevent.
The run from Trim to Harristown is straightforward, out the R161 past Bective Abbey, and collection can be arranged for booked work.
Why does the R154 commute wear cars out?
Because it is long, slow at both ends, and daily. Meath has the longest average commute in Ireland at 35 minutes, and Trim, with no rail link, does it entirely by car via Black Bull and the M3.
CSO Census 2022 figures put 19 per cent of Meath commuters at an hour or more each way, the highest rate in the country. For a Trim commuter that means clutch cycles in the Black Bull crawl, brakes coming due months early, and diesels that either cake up with motorway miles or never run hot enough around town to clean their DPF.
Our advice is to service on mileage, not the calendar. Tell us what the car does in a week and we will tell you honestly when the oil, brakes and belts actually need doing.
Who looks after Trim’s vans and farm jeeps?
That is our home ground. Trim’s trades vans run to Dublin sites daily and its hinterland runs jeeps and livestock trailers, yet the town has no dedicated van workshop.
For Transporters, Crafters, Sprinters, Vitos and every other working van we offer the full package: van servicing, DOE/CVRT prep before the test lanes in Navan or Athboy, and scheduling that respects a working van’s day.
For the farming side of Trim, Rathmolyon, Kildalkey, Ballivor, Longwood, we check towbar electrics, trailer lights and brakes before mart runs, and the suspension damage the narrow L-roads leave behind. And when something ends up in a ditch on a wet November evening, the flatbed answers 24/7.
