How does car transport work in Ireland?

You tell us where the car is and where it needs to go. We collect it on a flatbed, secure it properly, and deliver it fully insured. The car is carried, not driven, so no mileage is added.

Booking is one phone call. Give us the collection address, the delivery address and the car’s details, and we will quote a clear price and agree a day that suits. Eircodes are handy but not essential, a dealer name or a townland works just as well. From our base in Harristown, Navan we are minutes from the M3, so most of the country is a straight run.

On the day, the car is driven or winched onto the flatbed, strapped down and checked before the truck moves. It stays on the bed for the whole journey, so no fuel is burned, nothing is worn and not one extra kilometre goes on the odometer. That matters when the car is brand new, freshly detailed, or sold on the strength of its mileage.

Can you deliver a car I bought from a dealer or auction?

Yes. We collect from dealerships, auction houses and private sellers anywhere in Ireland and deliver to your door. Dealer deliveries are practised work for this flatbed, so your purchase is in careful hands.

A lot of our transport work is dealer deliveries, and the photos on this page are real jobs, our flatbed collecting at VW, Nissan, Skoda and SEAT forecourts. Sold cars reach their new owners’ doors clean, undamaged and with the same mileage they left with.

Private buyers get the same service. If you have bought a car in Cork, Galway or anywhere else in Ireland, we collect it and bring it to your door. No begging a lift off a friend, no two-car convoy, no long motorway run in a car you have never driven. Send us the details and we will price the run.

Do you transport non-running cars?

Yes. Non-runners, failed engines, seized brakes and accident-damaged cars are all moved with specialist loading equipment. If it rolls, or even if it does not, we can load it safely.

Plenty of the cars we move do not start. Auction buys sold as non-runners, project cars, dead engines and accident-damaged vehicles are loaded with specialist equipment rather than muscle. The winch does the work, so nothing is forced and nothing gets worse on its way onto the bed.

If the car has just died on you rather than being a planned move, our 24/7 breakdown recovery line is the faster route, the same trucks answer it day and night. For a non-runner that can wait a day or two, booking it as a transport job usually costs less, and we will tell you honestly which one you need.

Common questions.

How much does car transport cost in Ireland?

Each move is priced on distance, vehicle type and how quickly you need it. Call (086) 446 1672 with the collection and delivery addresses and we will give you a clear price before anything is booked. The price we quote is the price you pay, with no surprises on delivery day.

What areas do you cover for car transport?

We transport cars nationwide, collecting and delivering in any county in Ireland. Our base in Harristown, Navan sits minutes from the M3, with quick access to the M1, M2 and M50, so we can route a collection almost anywhere without wasted time.

Is it cheaper to transport a car or drive it yourself?

Over a long distance it is often closer than people expect once you count fuel, tolls, your own time and getting home again. Transport wins outright when the car is not taxed, not insured or not running, or when you would rather not add several hundred kilometres to a car you have just bought.

Is my car insured during transport?

Yes. Your vehicle is covered by the Alan Dawson Autoworks transport insurance from the moment it is loaded until it is handed over at the delivery address. It is strapped and checked before we move, and it travels on the flatbed rather than being driven, so it arrives exactly as it left.

Do I need to be there when the car is collected?

Not always. Dealer and auction collections are handled directly with the garage or auction house, so you do not need to be there at all. For a private collection we just need someone to hand over the keys. Tell our Navan office the setup when you book and we will work around it.

How do I arrange a delivery from a dealership?

Call (086) 446 1672 with the dealer’s name, the car’s details and your delivery address. We arrange collection directly with the garage, confirm a delivery day with you, and the car travels on the flatbed from our base in Harristown, Navan. The same careful loading applies whether it is a forecourt collection or a private one.

Can you move vans and commercial vehicles too?

Yes. We move vans and light commercials as well as cars, which suits garages shifting trade stock and businesses relocating vehicles. Transporters, Crafters, Sprinters and Vitos are familiar cargo, and so is everything else with a badge. For ongoing business work, ask about fleet servicing at our Navan workshop as well.

Need a car moved?

Call with the collection and delivery addresses and we will give you a clear price and a date. Anywhere in Ireland, fully insured, door to door.
